- Permission Fence - A New Way To Manage Permissions
At Files.com we believe in strong security and powerful controls. Our granular configuration for folder access allow you to apply both local and inheritable permissions to a folder.
Now we've added even more control for your folder permissions with our brand new Permission Fence feature.
A Permission Fence allows you to "fence off" a folder, and its subfolders, from inheriting permissions from its parent folders. It allows you to set up new permissions, including inheritable permissions, within the fenced folder. This gives you greater flexibility for your access permissions and can help when trying to match access permissions from your previous storage solutions. A Permission Fence can help you match so-called "negative ACLs" from a former file system.
The most difficult part of data migration is trying to maintain, or replicate, the access permissions of the source system. Our Permission Fence feature can help as, like all our features, it can be configured in multiple ways including: manually via our web portal, programmatically via our API, and both manually and from scripts via our Command Line (CLI) App.
Any folder can be configured with a Permission Fence, even those residing within Remote Mount storage locations, such as folders in Amazon S3, Azure, Google Cloud Storage, and other remote servers.
Permission Fences can also be placed within other Permission Fences, giving you unlimited possibilities for applying access permissions to your most complex folder structures.
The Permission Fence feature is now available to all our subscribers.
We at Files.com are always looking at ways to improve our features and capabilities. Our new Permission Fence feature was created based on feedback from our customers and we're looking forward to receiving more suggestions from you.
